A service animal is defined as a dog that’s individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.
Forms and Advance Notice
- Present a completed Department of Transportation Service Animal Air Transportation form at the ticket counter or gate on your day of travel. If it’s incomplete or missing, the animal may be denied transport
- Service animal relief areas are available at each of the locations. Contact Southwest directly for more information
- A service animal vest, harness, ID card, or registration will not be accepted in place of the form. Service animal relief areas are available at each of the locations we serve
Travel Requirements
- Employees may ask fact-finding questions to determine whether an animal is a trained service animal or eligible to be accepted as a pet
- Service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or otherwise always tethered to you
- Service Animals must also be well-groomed, free from odors, etc., and trained to behave and must stay under your control
Animal Behavior
- Animals must be trained to behave properly in public and will not be permitted in the cabin if they display any disruptive behavior such as growling, biting, jumping, etc.
- Animals may not be able to fly if all requirements are not met
